Things to do in Kuranda
Kuranda sits at about 330 metres above sea level, 27 kilometres inland from Cairns, and most visitors reach it by one of two historic routes rather than by road alone. 5 kilometres over the canopy of the Barron Gorge National Park, with stops at Red Peak and Barron Falls.
The classic plan is train one way, cableway the other, which takes most of a day once you allow time in the village. Kuranda's markets, wildlife parks and rainforest walks fill the rest of the visit, and the cooler air at altitude is a welcome break from Cairns.
