Things to do in Barron Gorge National Park
Barron Gorge National Park sits behind Kuranda, about 25 kilometres and a 40-minute drive from Cairns, and it is the forested cut the Barron River has carved on its way down from the Tablelands. 5-kilometre span between Smithfield and Kuranda, with a stop at the Barron Falls station for lookout views into the gorge.
The Kuranda Scenic Railway, built between 1886 and 1891 through 15 tunnels, runs along the opposite side. Walking tracks into the gorge itself are limited and can close after heavy Wet Tropics rain, so this is chiefly a park you look into rather than hike through on a single visit.
